A Little History

The Training Dept. was founded in 1991 by Grayson Evans to provide technical seminars on home network technology. The audience was originally companies such as Microsoft, HP, Intel, electric utilities and so on. In 1993 The Training Dept. developed the dealer training program for UStec and Lucent and later for IBM's Home Director. During the mid and late 1990's the company focused on training for the custom electronics installation industry. In 1998 the company began developing video based training courses to reach a larger segment of the expanding custom installer market. It's first course was Residential Infrastructure Wiring (since replaced by our Residential Network course). The main focus of the company is still video based training.

Our goal today is the same as it has always been: to deliver the highest quality education and training services available at a reasonable cost. The Training Dept.'s only products are training and training materials and they are the best available. Our videos and classes provide a detailed, yet easily comprehensible overview of all aspects of the technology covered. We strive to make technical subjects engaging as well as entertaining

Currently, The Training Dept. video training courses and classroom courses are developed and delivered by two separate administrative companies, but the same people.

Training Reels produces and distributes all Training Dept. video products. This includes all training courses, consumer education, and do-it-yourself videos.

Training Reels is owned and operated by Zeynep Erkan. Zeynep is an accomplished video producer and editor and has been actively involved in the production of all Training Dept. video products since 1998.

Training Dept. Seminars produces and delivers all Training Dept. classroom courses. This includes all trade show classes and CEDIA University courses. Grayson Evans is primarily responsible for all classroom course content and development as well as the video course content.

Grayson has been actively involved in residential systems and home network development and training for the past two decades. He is the author of two books in the home automation field and hundreds of industry magazine articles. He is a CEDIA Certified instructor and has taught many courses at CEDIA University, CEDIA Expo, EH Expo, and other industry events for the past twelve years.
